Handyman in Tbilisi: 10 Jobs Done in One Visit

Handyman in Tbilisi: 10 Jobs Done in One Visit

A handyman is someone who shows up at your door with the right tools and gets several unrelated things done in a single visit. Mount a TV, replace an outlet, put a wardrobe together, sort a sticking door — one trip, no need to track down four different specialists and coordinate four separate days.

Handyman services in Tbilisi are in steady demand. The rental market is active, there's a constant flow of expats and relocators moving into unfurnished apartments, and a lot of new-build flats need finishing work before they're actually liveable. Below are the 10 most common jobs, with real prices and a few local details.

The 10 Most Common Handyman Jobs in Tbilisi

1. TV Mounting, Shelf Hanging, and Mirror Installation

About half the calls sound like this: "I've bought a TV and I'm nervous about drilling into the wall." Understandable. The catch is that the right fixings depend entirely on what your walls are made of — and that varies a lot across Tbilisi.

If you live in a new-build in Digomi, Gldani or Ortachala, there's a good chance the walls are aerated block or lightweight ceramic block. Not every anchor will grip reliably in those materials. In Soviet-era buildings in Saburtalo and Didube, walls tend to be panel construction or brick — different drill, different plug. The handyman brings the full kit either way.

Time: 30–60 min. Price: from 80 GEL.

2. Furniture Assembly

Jysk, IKEA, local furniture stores — almost none of them include assembly. Expats and renters moving into an empty flat often hand the job to a handyman: faster than spending an evening with a flat-pack manual, although, to be fair, IKEA instructions are usually pretty clear. It's everything else that isn't.

A basic bed frame takes 30–60 minutes, one with a storage lift mechanism closer to 90. A four-section sliding wardrobe can stretch to two or three hours depending on how well the pre-drilled holes line up — that varies quite a bit between manufacturers. If you have several pieces, list them all when you book so the furniture handyman can work out timing properly. Prices are in the table above.

3. Faucet Replacement and Minor Plumbing

A dripping tap is constant background irritation and wasted water. Most of these jobs get sorted in a single visit: the handyman brings the basic consumables (washers, PTFE tape, sealant) so nothing stops mid-job over a small fitting.

In older buildings in Avlabari, Chughureti and Sololaki you sometimes come across non-standard Soviet-era threading. That's where experience counts — the wrong adapter won't hold, and you'll have a leak within a week. In newer apartments it's less of an issue, though imported designer taps occasionally come with unusual configurations.

What's covered: faucet replacement, flexi hose replacement, cistern mechanism repair, drain unclogging, trap installation, shower hose fitting.

Time: 30–60 min.

4. Outlets, Light Switches, and Light Fittings

A dead outlet, a switch that needs replacing, a chandelier to hang — none of this calls for a full electrical crew and a three-day wait.

In older buildings across Tbilisi you sometimes encounter aluminium wiring. It can't handle the load that copper can, and powerful appliances shouldn't be plugged into those circuits. When replacing outlets, connections need to be made properly — a loose terminal is a fire risk.

One note on scope: this is for small, non-structural electrical work. Running new cable or replacing a consumer unit is a job for a licensed electrician.

Time: 20–60 min. Price: from 40 GEL per point (combined work).

5. Curtain Rods and Roller Blinds

A job people tend to underestimate. Without a hammer drill, a spirit level and the right wall plug, the curtain rod will hang crooked — and in plasterboard or aerated block it'll pull straight out within weeks. The handyman comes with a stepladder, which matters in central Tbilisi's older buildings where ceiling heights of 3.2–3.5 metres are common.

Time: around 1 hour per window. Price: from 100 GEL.

6. Window Adjustment and Weatherstrip Replacement

October, November and the tail end of winter are the peak season for draughty windows in Tbilisi. The wind picks up, gaps become obvious, and in some buildings you get a proper howl through the frame. Window specialists get booked up fast at that time of year — better not to leave it until the last minute.

In most cases no replacement is needed. Adjusting the closing pressure, realigning the sash and replacing the rubber seal around the frame is usually enough to make it airtight again. Each sash takes 20–30 minutes, sometimes more if the hardware is worn and needs replacing.

Time: 20–40 min per window. Price: from 120 GEL for the first, 50 GEL each additional.

7. Door Repair and Lock Replacement

A door that won't close properly is usually a hinge adjustment, not a door replacement. Takes 15–20 minutes when the frame is square.

Replacing a lock cylinder is a very common request in Tbilisi's rental market — new tenants, new lock. A standard euro cylinder swaps out in 15–30 minutes. Non-standard ones take a bit longer but it's still a one-visit job — as long as you've bought the right size cylinder beforehand (take the old one to the hardware shop to match it).

Time: 30–60 min. Price: from 100 GEL.

8. Washing Machine and Dishwasher Installation

Connecting a washing machine or dishwasher isn't complicated, but doing it wrong causes leaks or a burned-out pump. After the test run, the handyman checks all connections — not just visually, but with the machine actually running.

What's included: cold water connection, drain hose hookup, power check, test cycle, leak inspection.

Time: 45–90 min. Price: from 100 GEL.

9. Drain Unclogging

Water draining slowly from the sink or bath. In 7 out of 10 cases the blockage is in the trap or the first bend of the pipe — cleared with a drain snake right there in your flat in one visit. If it's further along — a horizontal run or the main stack — the handyman will say so upfront rather than waste your time.

In older buildings with cast-iron pipes, grease and soap build up on the rough inner surface faster than in plastic drain systems. A quick trap clean once a year tends to prevent the serious blockages.

Time: 30–60 min. Price: from 100–200 GEL.

10. Minor Cosmetic Repairs After Moving Out

When a tenancy ends in Tbilisi, the tenant is expected to return the flat in its original condition. Screw holes in the walls, a lifting wallpaper corner, a detached skirting board, a cracked tile — the handyman deals with all of it in one visit rather than dragging it across several days.

What's typically included: filling screw holes with filler, re-gluing wallpaper, refitting skirting boards, replacing a cracked tile (if you have a spare), touching up chips and scorch marks on laminate.

Time: 1–3 hours. Price: from 50–100 GEL.

How to Prepare for a Handyman Visit — 4 Quick Tips

  • Send a photo of the job when you book. The handyman will bring the right tools and fixings rather than making a mid-job hardware run.
  • List everything at once. One visit, multiple jobs — cheaper and faster than two separate call-outs.
  • Clear the work area: pull furniture away from walls, empty the cabinet before assembly, move things from under the sink.
  • If your walls are aerated concrete block, mention it when booking. The handyman will bring the appropriate anchors. It's common in Tbilisi new-builds but not universal — depends on the developer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the handyman bring their own tools?

Yes — drill, hammer drill, screwdriver, laser level and basic consumables are always on hand. No need to stop work and run to Gorgia or Domino mid-job.

Can you do several jobs in one visit?

Yes, and that's the most common scenario. Just list everything when you book and the handyman will come prepared with the right gear.

How quickly can someone come?

Usually 1–3 hours after your message, if there's a free handyman. We cover all Tbilisi districts: Vake, Saburtalo, Gldani, Digomi, Isani, Nadzaladevi and others.

Is there a warranty on the work?

Yes. The exact period is agreed when you book — typically up to 6 months depending on the job.

Who buys the materials?

Basic consumables come with the handyman. If a specific part is needed — we agree a shopping list in advance. You can buy it yourself or ask us to, though a shopping trip is usually charged separately.
